Herat University Medical Students’ Association (HUMSA) is a student-based organization that represents medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Herat University. It aims to support students academically and professionally while encouraging participation in research, training, and community health activities.
HUMSA was founded in 2018 through an election among medical students. After the formation of its executive board and committees, the association began its official activities in mid-2020, organizing trainings, academic programs, research-related activities, and student support initiatives. Due to major political and social changes in Afghanistan, HUMSA’s activities were paused during 2021–2022. This interruption affected many student organizations across the country.
In 2025, medical students at Herat University revived and restructured the association, rebuilding it based on its original goals and values. As part of this renewal, the organization is now also known as the Herat University Medical Students Committee, while continuing under the HUMSA identity.
Today, HUMSA works to strengthen medical education, promote research culture, develop leadership skills, and support the personal and academic growth of future healthcare professionals. The association remains committed to serving students, the university, and the community through responsible and student-led initiatives.
